Battle map printer

Gridify and print any battle map to scale.

Upload a map, tell Goblinery how big one grid square is, and it splits the map across sheets of paper you can print, tape together and stand a miniature on. One square comes out 25.4 mm across — measured with a ruler, not promised.

4 × 3 sheets of A4 for a 30 × 20 square map — two of them deleted because they cover nothing but empty ground.

How it works

Three steps, about a minute, then you are at the printer.

  1. 01

    Drop in your map

Any PNG, JPEG or WEBP — a VTT export, a scan, something you drew. The file is decoded in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

  2. 02

    Declare one square

Say the map is 30 squares wide, or that a square is 140 px. Either way Goblinery knows how big a square is in the file, and you say how big it should be on paper — 25.4 mm by default.

  3. 03

    Print it, tape it, play

Pick your paper, and the map is cut into sheets with a 5 mm overlap to tape along. Delete the sheets that only cover empty ground. Export a PDF, or print straight from the browser.

What you get

Scale you can measure

The PDF carries the exact page size, so a printed square measures what you asked for. Put a ruler on it.

Grid you can align

Colour, thickness, opacity and a sub-square offset, so the overlay lands on a grid the map already has instead of fighting it.

Only the paper you need

Sheets are an editable list, not a fixed lattice. Drag the whole grid over the map, then delete every sheet covering dead space.

Rotate awkward sheets

One sheet can go landscape while the rest stay portrait — useful for a corridor that just overruns the edge.

Overlap for taping

A shared 5 mm edge between neighbours and a 5 mm printer margin, both adjustable.

Nothing leaves the tab

No account, no upload, no queue. Your maps stay on your machine, which is also why it is fast.

Paper

Pick a preset or type your own dimensions, in either orientation.

Questions

Why did my print come out the wrong size?
Almost always the print dialog. Set the scale to 100% or “Actual size” — “Fit to page” quietly shrinks everything by a few percent and the sheets stop lining up. Goblinery warns you about this right next to the print button.
What size should a square be?
One inch — 25.4 mm — is the standard for D&D and Pathfinder minis. A 1 cm square is there for metric-native systems, and any other size can be typed in.
How many sheets will a map take?
The editor tells you before you print: a 30 × 20 square map at one inch per square is 762 × 508 mm, which is 4 × 3 sheets of A4. Trim the empty ones and it is usually fewer.
Does it work with hex maps?
Not yet. v1 is square grids. Hex grids, fog of war and an ink-saving black-and-white filter are next up.

Your map is already the right size. It just needs the right paper.
